Chardonnay has always been my favourite cultivar without a doubt. I have never given it much thought, it simply was my favourite.
(More recently, two other contenders for the title have arrived on the scene: White Pinotage and Viognier. But Chardonnay still holds firm in that 1st place.)
Thinking about it on this #ChardDay , I didn’t have to ponder the question for too long. What could be more satisfying than the buttery aromas, toasty oak, butterscotch and citrus flavours you get from this cultivar? It is tasty, it is sensual and it is satisfying. A great wine on its own and even better with food. Not to mention the variety of flavours from different producers.
What are my favourites?
Weltevrede Place of Rock Chardonnay; Weltevrede Vanilla Chardonnay; Christina Van Loveren Chardonnay; Tangled Tree Butterscotch Chardonnay; De Wetshof Lime Stone Hill; KWV Mentors Chardonnay; Mellasat Wines’ 2012 Chardonnay; Landskroon Chardonnay; Bonnievale Wines Chardonnay
I’d love to know what your faves are!
